Sun Valley, a resort town in Blaine County (near Ketchum, Idaho) offers exciting opportunities for visitors all year round. The entire town is set up with free public transportation and easy bicycle access, making it easy to get wherever you need without worrying about vehicles or parking. Although the area is probably most famous for its winter sports and activities, the mountain resorts have a lot to do in the summer as well. Here’s a sampling of what’s available in this amazing location: In the Winter: Skiing is one of the most famous activities in Sun Valley. Because Sun Valley is a resort town, it offers a wide variety of helpful amenities and locations for visitors, many of them tailored to the needs of visiting skiers. In addition to lodges and other places to stay, these amenities include a wide variety of places to shop, eat, and drink, as well as spas and fitness centers. And, of course, there are also places for renting ski equipment or for taking classes if you’re new to the sport! The most prominent and well-known of Sun Valley’s skiing sites is likely Bald Mountain, a location offering over 3000 feet of vertical drop over its course, though Dollar Mountain, also in the area, offers an experience better suited for new skiers. In addition to skiing, there are other winter activities available in Sun Valley, including ice skating, snowshoeing, and more. In the Summer: Though ski-quality snow doesn’t last all year, the mountains and the trails are used year-round! In the summer, the trails and wildflower-lined routes near Sun Valley are used for biking, hiking, horseback riding, and more. The spas remain open as well, some of them open for swimming both indoors and out.
